Digha- The Most Poupular Beach Of Bengal Short History Of The Place & Tourism Digha used to be a small village of Beerkul. An Englishman John Frank Snaith started living here in 1923 and he later convinced West Bengal Chief Minister Bidhan Chandra Roy to develop this place as a beach resort. With this started the development of the town. Small hotels & Lodges were set up and in the 1990s & 2000 this became a major tourist destination. Later after 2011 there was major development undertaken by the administration and road and rail connectivity with all major towns and cities increased and Digha became what it is today.
